What to do in Antwerp?
There is no doubt that there is more to do in Antwerp than in Almelo. But what then? Below are a few of our suggestions for things to do or see during your visit to Antwerp!
Museum Plantin-Moretus
The Museum Plantin-Moretus was the residence and printing house of the Plantin-Moretus publishing family. In 1576, book printer and publisher Christoffel Plantin moved into the building on Vrijdagmarkt square. He could store no fewer than 16 printing presses in the building, and there was still room to live. It was not until 1876 that Edward Moretus (a descendant of Plantin’s son-in-law Jan I Moretus) sold the property to the city of Antwerp. A year later, the building became accessible to the public and has remained so to this day as a printing museum.
The museum houses the two oldest printing presses remaining in the world. They date from around 1600, and there is a good chance that Plantin himself operated the presses. You will also find a prosperous 17th-century private library, a beautiful courtyard and ‘the shop’ in the museum; not an overpriced museum shop, but the original bookshop from 1639.
Museum Plantin-Moretus was the first museum to appear on the Unesco World Heritage List. That alone makes it unique!
Chocolate Nation
When visiting Belgium, you should not skip the chocolate. The largest chocolate museum in the world – Chocolate Nation – is in Antwerp. You can easily spend 1.5 hours admiring the most beautiful and tastiest chocolate artworks and follow the journey from bean to bonbon with an informative audio tour. And, at the end of the tour, you’ll get to taste different types of chocolate yourself.
Fort 5
Fort 5 is part of the Defense Line of Antwerp. Construction began in 1859, and the building was completed in 1864. Due to the rapid developments in artillery, it has hardly served as a fortress.
Today, the military structure serves as a co-working space for entrepreneurs and creatives. The area around the fort has been taken over by nature and is popular with hikers. But the stronghold is currently most popular with… bats!
Fort 5 (as well as the other forts of Antwerp’s historic fortress belt) is designated as a bat habitat. The only time you can visit the bat sanctuary is towards the end of August, during a guided tour. But in the 90-hectare green area around the fort, you can relax and enjoy nature all year round.

How much does a taxi cost?
You will get a fixed price when you pre-book a taxi with us. The exact fare depends on several things:
The distance of the ride
Of course, you will pay less for a shorter ride. However, our rate per kilometre decreases as the total distance increases. That is unique because most taxi companies offer a metered fare based on a fixed amount for each kilometre. As a result, you are off cheaper with Staxi than with other taxi companies.
The type of vehicle
A ride in a regular taxi is cheaper than a ride in a taxi van. When you pre-book your taxi with us, the cost difference between a minibus taxi and a sedan is smaller than when you flag down a cab on the street or get in at a taxi rank. In that case, the driver will charge the meter rate, which is more expensive than our fixed rates.
Supply and demand
Just like a plane ticket or a night in a hotel, the fare for the same trip can fluctuate depending on supply and demand. For example: in extreme weather conditions, such as heavy snow, the need for taxi transport increases rapidly, which makes the price rise. The same journey can also be a lot cheaper, for instance, travelling at a quiet time.
As such, Staxi works with peak and off-peak hours. Our software automatically adjusts the fares based on supply and demand. In quiet moments, you will travel even cheaper with Staxi.
Calculate the fare for your taxi rides easily with our taxi fare calculator or via the Staxi App!
How long in advance should I book the taxi?
That depends on the location where you want to be picked up. Usually, there is a minimum booking time of 60 minutes. In some areas, it is longer and in others shorter.
Tip: When you book a taxi with the Staxi App, you can see precisely where the driver is and what time he or she will arrive.
